Highlights of the Fort Smith Board of Directors Meeting 1/6/26

At the Fort Smith Board of Directors meeting held 1-6-26, the Board voted unanimously in favor a zoning change for 1401 Old Greenwood that will allow for the proper zoning for the property for Boy Scouts of America to keep operating their office in their existing location and to be able to potentially also lease some of the existing building for other uses. Mayor McGill praised the Boy Scouts program.

During the Executive Session portion of the meeting, the Board privately discussed the candidates that were interviewed via Zoom 12-15-25 for the City Administrator position. The applicants discussed were Scott Rigby (former City Manager of Edmond, Oklahoma), Dean Johnson(former Mayor of Puyallup, Washington), Matthew Harline (former Manager of Villa Park, Illinois) and Fort Smith’s Acting City Administrator Jeff Dingman. Following the private discussion, the Board voted unanimously to engage an outside search firm to perform a nationwide search for applicants and for Director Kemp to be the liaison between the Board and the search firm for that search process.
